LUES WILL CELEBRATE 100 DAYS FRIDAY 1/24

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: ATTENDANCE
Proactive Planning- All children will have days they are sick or need to go to an appointment, but try to plan vacations and appointments during school breaks when possible to minimize disruptions to your child's education. Always send an excuse for illness.

Important Update from Toombs County Schools: After consulting with the local Emergency Management Agency and the Toombs County Sheriff's Office, we have determined that hazardous road conditions caused by snowfall and persistent sub-freezing temperatures—leading to dangerous icing—make school travel unsafe. To prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and community, schools will remain closed on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The plan is to return to normal school operations on Friday, January 24, 2025. Our school transportation department will reach out to families of bus riders affected by impacted roads to ensure safe travel to school on Friday.

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: ATTENDANCE
Stay Involved- Keep lines of communication open with the school. This will allow your child to see that you value education and will make you aware of any issues that could affect their desire to attend school. Please contact us anytime- 912-526-5816.

One of our STEM groups at LUES last week was cutting and coloring snowflakes ❄️; students had a choice of 3 different designs of snowflakes to create, and they loved this activity! It was just in time for our snow day! #shine

LUES has very POPular teachers!!! Friday, January 17, Mrs. Stone provided a popcorn bar for her teachers and staff in observance of National Popcorn Day, which fell over the weekend in the 19th. Thank you teachers and staff for ALL you do; YOU MAKE LUES POP!!

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: ATTENDANCE
Establish Routines- Create daily routines that include a set bedtime and morning routine that ensure your child gets enough sleep and is ready for school on time.

Update from Toombs County School System:
After careful monitoring of the incoming weather conditions and in consultation with our local EMA, we have made the following adjustments to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community:
On Tuesday, January 21, all schools will dismiss early at 2:00 PM to allow buses to be off the roads ahead of the incoming weather.
We will be closed to students and staff on Wednesday, January 22.
All extracurricular activities and events on January 21 and January 22 are cancelled.
We will resume all normal school schedules and activities on Thursday, January 23.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize everyone's safety. We will continue to communicate any school updates through the following communication tools: Toombs County Schools mobile app, Social Media Outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), School websites, Email, text and call-out system.

Toombs County School System officials are closely monitoring the threat of winter weather moving through our area this week. Our top priority is the safety of our students, staff, and community. This will guide any decisions we make. Please stay tuned to our communication tools for updates (social media, mobile app, email, text, etc). For now, we are planning normal school operations, however, those plans may change as weather forecasts update.

REMINDER: Monday, Jan. 20th is MLK Jr. Day. Toombs County Schools will be closed for students and staff.

LUES: No School Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: ATTENDANCE
Real-World Expectations- Regular attendance prepares students for the expectations they will face in higher education and the workplace. Being punctual, present, and dependable are expectations as they enter the real world! Tardy is at 7:45 am.

This year's Real Squeal Writing Contest winners were recognized at the Toombs County BOE meeting on Jan. 9, 2025. Congratulations to the following students: Aubrey Gay (TCHS), Sarah Ellis Walker (TCHS), Sophi Ho (TCHS), Jaxson Owens (LPS), Ace Anthony (LPS), Andrew Fowler (LUES), Aiden Torrez (LUES), Haisleigh McLeod (LPS), Landyn Carter (TCES), and John Featherston (TCMS)

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: ATTENDANCE
Continuity of Learning- Skills and concepts build on each other each day. Missing school disrupts the continuity of learning and makes it difficult for students to grasp new concepts and stay on track. Many students feel overwhelmed after missing school because the learning has continued without them, and they now have to learn what was taught when they were gone, as well as what is being taught today.
