3/1/25
Dear Parents and Guardians,
LUES will be implementing their 3rd and final i-Ready® Diagnostic March 17-25, 2025, an innovative adaptive assessment program for Reading and Math. i-Ready will help teachers assess the needs of each and every student in their class. The results of the adaptive assessment provide teachers with an instructional course of action personalized for each student.
An adaptive assessment is: Designed for students to get about 50% correct and 50% incorrect and will find a “just right” placement level for reading and/or mathematics for each student in the quickest, most efficient way possible. Helpful in showing what your child “can do” and what “the next steps” should be, individualizing for each student.
I would like to enlist your assistance in preparing your child for this assessment. Please encourage your child to:
Eat a good breakfast and be rested for the day of the assessment
Try their best on each question and try not to rush
Try not to worry about questions they do not know—remind them that it is expected they will get about half of the questions correct
Take “breaks” and have fun with the short “game breaks” that are integrated into the assessment
Have paper and pencil handy for math questions
Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish
If you have any questions about i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher directly. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting www.iready.com/tour.
Sincerely,
Rhonda Stone
LUES Principal

LUES WILL HAVE SPRING PICTURES ON 3/11/25
Dress code will be enforced.

A great idiom for a 5th-grade Idiom Day is "Piece of cake." This expression means something is very easy to do. Our 5th graders made Idiom Day look like a "piece of cake."
"Kick up your heels", "let down your hair", "Cut loose", these idioms refer to having a fun time and enjoying it. That is just what 5th grade did today for Idiom Day.
All 5th graders were invited to represent an idiom in their appearance, a poster, or other props. Other students had the opportunity to name that idiom and the meaning. A great day for active learning.

**5th Grade Idiom Day: Unleashing Creativity Through Language!**
Today, our 5th-grade students experienced the fun and creativity of Idiom Day, where they dove into the colorful world of idioms! This special day was designed to help students understand and appreciate figurative language, making learning both engaging and memorable.
**What is Idiom Day?**
Idiom Day is a celebration of idiomatic expressions—those quirky phrases that mean something different than their literal interpretation. From “raining cats and dogs” to “barking up the wrong tree,” idioms add flavor to our language. The goal of this event was to enhance students' linguistic skills and encourage them to think outside the box.

Model Healthy Habits- Lead by example. Your child can learn from seeing your healthy behaviors, so prioritize your own well-being.

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: HEALTHY HABITS
Hydration- Talk with your child about the importance of staying hydrated by drinking water throughout the day. When children are dehydrated, they can be unfocused and lack energy. Also, limit sugary drinks or caffeine for children, their bodies do not need it, and it often affects their mood or behavior.

LUES BOOK FAIR WILL BE March 3-Mar 7, 2025
Students will get to preview the merchandise before purchasing so they will know how much money they will need. Don't forget to add for tax! This is an awesome fundraiser for our media center and helps to instill a love of reading for our students.

Homework help is offered at the Dr. Mark and Tonya Spivey Public Library in Vidalia on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4-6PM. The program serves ages 5-18. Check it out!

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: HEALTHY HABITS
Boredom- Kids don't like to be bored, and it's easy to hand them a screen to buy you time and peace. However, boredom is key to their development. It encourages them to be creative and use their imagination. Ensure your child has unstructured, independent time each day.
