LUES 7 MINDSETS PARENT UPDATE: Do celebrate and support action plans in your home. When your children come to you with a plan of action for anything, to exercise more or spend more time on homework, applaud the effort. The Time Is Now is about taking action. As parents, we are part of our children’s Dream Teams and our encouragement of them and their dreams is paramount. Helping them find their purpose, what makes them truly happy, is part of the fun.
LUES is Celebrating our School-Based SLPs- Donna Spikes and Hayley Hughston!
The Georgia Organization of School-based Speech Language Pathologists announces that March 11-15, 2024 is School-based SLP Week. We take this time to recognize the exceptional work of speech and language pathologists in the schools who advocate for all students with communication disorders.
SLPs play a varied yet integral role in schools, serving on multidisciplinary teams to identify students with communication disorders, evaluating students, developing treatment plans and IEPs and scheduling and providing therapy services. Additionally, they maintain required certification by attending professional learning opportunities. They provide support and training to school staff and families of their students. In our district, SLPs also document services to Medicaid eligible students, providing additional revenue to the LEA.
Hats off to these remarkable professionals, whose caring and expertise benefits so many. Their dedication to their students, their jobs and their professions deserves recognition.
Imago Dei Missions provides cost-free clothing and essentials to foster, adoptive, kinship, and guardianship families. Families are asked to bring a copy of their appropriate paperwork to verify eligibility on their 1st visit. March hours are listed on the attached flyer.
LUES 7 MINDSETS LESSON: THE TIME IS NOW--Get in the Zone – When we act out of anger, jealously, or resentment, we almost always get it wrong and cause more harm than good. The key is to recognize when we are out of sorts, stop taking action, and figure out a way to get in a better state of mind. When we can do this and get into our zone, the actions we take are much more effective and result in a far more positive outcome. This is not to say that justified anger isn’t appropriate, such as when we react to bullying or discrimination. The key is to think before we act, in all cases.
Mark your calendars - Round 'Em Up Fishing Rodeo is April 6 from 8:00am-Noon @ the pond behind LUES. It's open to ages 15 & under and the child must be accompanied by an adult (18+). There will be prizes, snacks & refreshments. See the graphic for more info about what to bring.
LUES FAMILY FOCUS: Time Management-- Routines help children learn to manage their time effectively. They learn to prioritize tasks and allocate time for all of their daily activities (homework, chores, sports, play, and screen time).
Early Release Day - March 7 @ 11:30 AM History has been made! For the first time in school history, the Toombs County Bulldog Basketball team will travel Thursday, March 7 to the Macon Coliseum to play at 3:00 PM for the 2024 GHSA AA State Championship! All Toombs County Schools will release at 11:30 AM on March 7, 2024 to allow sufficient time for our dedicated fans to travel to the State Championship game. All students will be served lunch before dismissal. If your child is a car rider, please make sure you or someone on the pick-up list is at the school to pick him/her up at 11:30 AM. If your child is a bus rider, please make sure someone is at your residence shortly after 11:30 AM to receive your child off of the bus. We will resume normal school hours on Friday, March 8.

LUES PARENT UPDATE FOR 7 MINDSETS LESSON: The Time is Now
Do encourage your children to discover what motivates them and what makes them feel powerful. Tapping into these feelings and knowing what tools they might use to get into a “zone” and perform at an optimal level is a win-win for both parents and children. Talking with them about times where they felt their absolute best and figuring out what was unique about those moments is a great way to help them get back there. For some children, it’s a song or routine that makes them feel great. For others, the memory of a time they felt powerful is enough to think back to.
LUES DAYCARES FOR THURSDAY 3/7/24 EARLY RELEASE: Boys and Girls Club, Step by Step, and Nip and Tuck have confirmed they will be ready to receive students off the bus at 11:30. Please reach out to your daycare and make sure they are going to be prepared for students. Let us know if you get a response so we can let others know.

LUES PBIS March Madness: March 8, 2024- Dress like a basketball player! This will be our Georgia Milestone Testing Mindset Preparation in the gym during Connections Classes. Students will learn the importance of Following Directions, Visualizing Success, Overcoming Obstacles, and Practicing to Perform at their highest level. Students cannot have any office referrals (reds) or more than one orange referral from 2/12/24-3/8/24.
LUES 7 Mindset Lesson: THE TIME IS NOW- Embrace Every Moment – One measure of our lives is how we feel in each moment. To what degree do we experience positive emotions like joy, love, gratitude, empathy, etc.? When we embrace every moment, we squeeze the most out of all experiences and live lives of greater joy and happiness. We must seek circumstances and moments that create great joy and memories. Even in difficult times, such as losing a loved one, we experience love; while sad, such experiences are still rich and add meaningfully to our lives.

The simple fact is that all of our power to act and make an impact exists in this moment. We cannot change the past, and the future hasn’t happened, so we must
recognize that our only path to happiness, fulfillment and meaning is to take purposeful action in the present toward creating the lives of our dreams.
LUES Leap Day: Mrs. McCoy and Ms. Morris's class completed a Leap Day time capsule activity this morning. All of their findings and work have been placed in the time capsule, and on Leap Day in 2028, our future students will get to see what our current students wrote to them.

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: Establishing Routines-- In the hustle and bustle of daily life, consistent routines can be beneficial to students. Routines provide stability, promote independence, and contribute to a positive and productive home and learning environment.
