After consultation and recommendations from state and local emergency management, our area is anticipating severe weather from Hurricane Helene overnight Thursday and continuing into the early hours of Friday morning.
We are anticipating the weather to be out of our area by Friday around lunch. However, with the uncertainty of potential damage, power outages, road issues, and with the safety of all of our stakeholders in mind, the Toombs County School System will be
closed for students and staff on Friday, September 27th.
We will return to normal operations on Monday, September 30th. Please stay tuned to our social media outlets and communication tools for any further updates.

The Toombs County School System is closely monitoring Hurricane Helene in collaboration with local emergency management officials.
We will have normal school operations tomorrow, Sept. 26.
A decision regarding school on Friday, Sept. 27 will be made tomorrow afternoon.
Please stay tuned to our school communication outlets for the latest updates on school operations.

Early next week, all Toombs County schools will be conducting practice lockdown drills required by HB 147. The drills must be conducted by October 1st of each year as part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of our students and staff. The drills will take place during the school day and will follow established safety protocols.
Key Points to Note:
Drills will occur at each school, with staff guiding students throughout the process.
Local law enforcement will be present to assist and monitor.
These drills are purely precautionary and designed to ensure everyone knows the proper procedures in case of an actual emergency.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep our schools safe. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school administration.

If you have a seventh-grade student, an updated immunization record must be submitted to TCMS. Students were given letters to parents explaining the immunization updates and requirements. Please get your child's immunization turned in as soon as possible. For more information, contact TCMS Nurse at 912-524-3305 or candace.williams@toombs.k12.ga.us

How do you feel when you get a compliment/encouragement from a stranger? Pretty good? It's a good feeling when someone notices something about you. But what about when someone you really care about compliments/encourages you? That's a great feeling, and it's what our kids feel when we use words to point out how special they are. A child who feels valued and accepted by his or her family can change the world. So don't underestimate the importance of keeping a list of compliments/words of encouragement for kids on hand.
If you struggle to be creative with your words, here is a list to try.

On Sunday afternoon, the Toombs County School System was notified by several concerned individuals about a threatening social media post circulating in our community. We immediately contacted our local law enforcement partners to investigate the matter. After conducting interviews with the individuals involved, it was determined that the post did not originate from or specifically mention Toombs County or the Toombs County School System. However, similar threats have been shared across multiple communities in the region.
This alarming trend is affecting many areas, especially in light of the recent tragic events at Apalachee High School in Barrow County. Our thoughts and prayers remain with that community. School Districts across the state are facing these widespread online threats, which, while not always originating locally, are being shared extensively and causing concern.
Please rest assured that we take ALL threats seriously and act with urgency. We are grateful for the strong partnerships we have with both the Lyons Police Department and the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office. These agencies are ready to support us at a moment’s notice to investigate any potential threats or suspicious behavior.
As a precaution, we have requested that our law enforcement partners continue their presence on our campuses to provide an additional layer of security. We sincerely thank the concerned citizens who brought this post to our attention, as well as the Lyons Police Department and the Toombs County Sheriff’s Department for their continued vigilance and support.

Around 5:45 this morning the Toombs County School System was made aware of a disturbing social media post that insinuated “shooting”. The post did not mention any of our schools. However, we felt it was necessary to notify law enforcement of the post, and both Lyons Police Department and the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the post and contained the issue before school started. As a layer of extra support and security, we have additional officers at each school. Rest assured that the safety and security of all of our students and staff is paramount in what we do each day. Thanks to both the Lyons Police Department and Toombs County Sheriff’s Department for working together with us to address this matter swiftly. We are continuing to operate as normal but will continue to have additional law enforcement on each of our campuses.

We are excited to have parents and grandparents join their children for breakfast! Please see the flyer for dates and times.
