Transition Night at TCHS
Toombs County High School hosted a Transition Night on October 28th for students in grades 9 -12 at the Toombs County Ag Center. Transition night is an event designed to provide students with disabilities and their families with a comprehensive set of information about the steps and agencies involved in the process of planning for employment and life after high school. Several community agencies were on hand to answer questions about services they provide.
Dr. Gary Mullis gave a short presentation on Medicaid waivers and instructed parents on the application process. Special education teachers, high school counselors and administrators provided information about IEP’s, transition, applying to college, financial aid, requirements for graduation, parent portal, etc. The purpose of the transition night was to bring students and their family members together to learn about resources, services, people, and places available to them for planning and continuing the transition process.
Mrs. Sabrina Campbell, CTI and Transition Coordinator, was pleased with the turnout. “We had representatives such as Easter Seals, Southeastern Technical College, Family Connections, Mustard Seed, Special Olympics, etc. at our first transition night. We hope to make this an annual tradition for our students with disabilities at Toombs County High School. Transition Night gave students and their families the opportunity to discuss the possibilities that lie ahead after high school. We want our students to be successful and become valuable members of our community,” stated Mrs. Campbell.
