Mr. Richard Smith
Richard Smith is the new superintendent of Toombs County Schools. He is a veteran educator with 25 years classroom and administrative experience. He started his career as a long term substitute in 1990. The following year Mr. Smith was hired as a teacher in the Bleckley County School system to teach math and science. He coached varsity football, basketball and track. In 1996, Mr. Smith became a high school administrator serving as assistant principal, director of CTAE, and principal. In 2008 he was named Assistant Superintendent and served in that role for the past 7 years.
Mr. Smith earned a Bachelors in Business Administration from Georgia College in 1988. He also holds a Masters in Administration and Supervision and a Specialist in Educational Leadership from Georgia College & State University. In 2009, Smith completed the Superintendents Professional Development Program through the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia School Superintendents Association.
Richard and his wife, Abbie, have two children. Will, 22, is an equipment operator at Academy Sports Distribution Center. Macy, 18, is a student at Middle Georgia State University studying to be a Nurse Practitioner. Abbie has a Bachelors in Business Administration. She has returned to school and will earn her degree as a Radiologic Technologist next spring from Oconee Fall Line Technical College. They are excited to be moving to Toombs County and look forward to becoming part of the community.
