Clubs and Activities
The Lyons Upper Elementary Junior Beta Club consists of students who have shown academic excellence by maintaining a 90 or above average in all subjects for fourth and fifth grade. The group is formed at the beginning of 5th grade, and grades are monitored throughout the year to ensure that the members are continuing to keep up their academic performance. Possessing good behavior is also a big part of being a member. The students are showing leadership qualities by providing help to teachers, cleaning the school campus, and heading up a supply drive for SOAPS. The Jr. Beta Club is also responsible for the raising and lowering of the flags every day. At the end of the year during CRCT testing they help motivate students to do their best by performing skits and making motivational posters.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is an officer-led series of lessons that gives fifth grade students the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. It teaches students good decision making skills to help them avoid high-risk behavior to ensure they grow up healthy, safe, and secure.
The mission of Georgia 4-H is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. This mission is accomplished, through "hands on" learning experiences, focused on agricultural and environmental issues, agriculture awareness, leadership, communication skills, foods and nutrition, health, energy conservation, and citizenship. All 5th grade students at LUES are 4-H members.
Staff from the Toombs County Extension Office visit 5th grade classrooms monthly to present an educational program and offer students with the opportunity to participate in activities outside the classroom. Meetings are conducted during Science or Social Studies classes.
